Facebook just made some major changes to the layout and the functionality of business pages. Watch the video below for an explanation and update!
Some Important Notes:
New Cover Photo. You can place a cover image that is similar to a website header image. It must be at least 399 pixels wide, and can be up to 850 X 315 pixels in size. There are some important restrictions on what you can have on your cover photo so please click the “learn more” tab after you click “add a cover” to find out the details. (No price or purchase information, calls to action, etc.)
Profile Picture Size: Your profile pic is now a square image of 180 X 180 pixels.
You can no longer select a custom tab for the default landing page for new visitors who have not yet “liked” your page.
You can pin posts you would like to highlight at the top of your wall now!
New Message Feature. People can now send direct messages to your business inbox, similar to how the personal profile messages work.
Custom Tab Pages Are Now Bigger. Custom tabs, or landing pages, are now 760 pixels wide (520 is the current size). This will give more room for a much richer, higher quality page.
00:00:00-00:02:00 Hey, everybody this is Keith Kranc from DominateWebMedia and I wanted to get a quick video about Facebook big, big new changes with their business pages which is the Facebook Timeline for pages. And this is pretty big deal, there’s kinda big uproar right now and it’s probably gonna be happening over the next couple of weeks, and what’s happening is a big change and March 30th, it actually will automatically go permanent on their page. So right now, people can test it and you can tour it and only an admin will see the view of the actual timeline view. Anybody else that comes to your page will see the old design until you publish it or, until March 30, 2012. Right now, people are freaking out, think, because they’re, some are saying “Oh my god! Fan pages are dead. What do we gonna do? We can’t choose a custom landing tag for new visitors anymore.” And there’s a little bit of panic. I just want you to relax. Actually this is a good thing for business owners, okay. I don’t care what the actual news is out there and the kind of the buzz is but, for anybody that truly understands marketing and social media marketing and direct response marketing, this is a good news for savvy business owners okay. What they’ve done here is they’ve changed the layout. So now when somebody comes to your page, the top of your page will have your cover photo. And your cover photo is basically and 850 by 315 pixel image, okay. So, it’s basically like a banner image at the top of your website. So 850 pixels wide which is pretty much the full length of the screen of
00:02:00-00:04:00 the Facebook part of your screen and then 315 down which is you know, about two and a half or three inches like that. So now, some other changes that they’ve done is , if you look down here on my page, you will see photos here, likes here, top 5 mistakes, YouTube. So these here are basically the menu for the tabs. Okay, so for example, the old view here, these were over here, okay, top 5 mistakes, YouTube, photos. So now, this is a lot bigger and you can create a custom image. Si right here, this is just a, no image in here, I can put any image that I want in here to represent whatever I have for my custom landing page, okay. And this is different tabs you’ll have, so. This here is kind of your profile image and your profile image needs to be a square, I believe its a hundred and eighty by hundred and eighty pixels wide. And just so you know, I’m gonna have a link for those of you that are do-it-yourself person, you’re not a web designers or you’re not designers, pixlr.com, PixLr.com, is a great free tool that you know, can create your own banner with and I’ll give a, I’ll put a link at the bottom of this video and you can go check it out. It’s really easy and they’ve great instructional videos, great YouTube videos, that show you how to use it and you can create your own banner right now. And maybe you can have a designer do it on a mean time, but, ah, with a collage of photos or whatever you wanna do, you know, take your logo, and then, put a little background behind it and color. So, that’s pretty cool. So, you can make your own, don’t stress about that. One thing you can do is you can still choose a custom landing page for driving traffic here. So for example, you’re running Facebook ads, I can still run Facebook ads to a custom landing page

The only big difference that, right now, you’re not able to do is you’re not able to select a custom landing page on your Facebook page to be the default page. So, we tell business owners to select a landing page with an offer and you know, call an action on their, for kinda welcome page for new visitors, so they won’t land on their wall. But you’re not able to do this now and don’t stress about that. It’s not a big deal; I believe one of the big reasons is because they are, Facebook, they long term goal is t really; they need to start generating more revenue with their Facebook ads so, don’t stress about that. That’s actually a good thing too, because what they’re doing is they’re massively improving their Facebook advertising platform and they’re able to do some pretty cool stuff now as far as sponsor stories, ads, ads that run in the newsfeed, ads that go on mobile phones and you can do these really, really cheap especially if you’re targeting your existing fans. And then, obviously when you’re targeting non-fans, it’s an unbelievable way to get your message out there, to your target audience. So, we believe in Facebook advertising. I think its one of the greatest ways ever to really drive targeting traffic to your business. As long as you have systems in place to build that relationship and you’re not trying to instantly sell right away. So, okay let’s see. Couple little things too, is it’s kinda cool if you click this button here, you can actually highlight different post. You can highlight a post that you did and you can keep it at the top it for like seven days, okay, which is cool. And you can kinda repost it if you want someone to see, or you can check this out. I can click post by others, so I’ll change the layout of the timeline. So, look at this, now I’m showing ah, this is how normally it will look. Well. It will actually look like this with an image here but, I’m gonna

So, in this view, it’s a post by others, which this is a good one, I’ve got a recent post a couple of days ago from one of my audience that sent me a “thank you”. That’s always good to have at the top of your page, and you know, I’m gonna keep it in this view layout for a period of time. So, okay, let’s go to the admin panel real quick. Top right here is how you access your admin panel now, instead of selecting, clicking edit page; you just click on admin panel. And it’s kinda cool, you can check this out, build audience, invite e-mail contacts, invite friends, share page, create an ad. So it makes us much easier to build your audience organically, then recently. And then manage page, so you can go to your edit page which kind of goes to the a little more less similar menu that we were use to see before. The only thing that we don’t have now was that, that selection to select the certain tab for the landing page but everything else is pretty similar. So, we’ve got, you know, activity logs, users, help, stuff like that, so. I’m not gonna go into detail now, but not right now, I just wanna give you guys a quick update to let you know that, this is not a bad things, this is a really good thing. One other big thing too, is these custom landing tabs, I I click on that, notice how it’s really narrow for the page. So, these are actually 760 wide now. Before this is limited to 520 pixels, well now, custom landing tabs is 760 pixels wide which is like, almost as wide as a normal website. So now, when we’re building custom landing pages and custom pages within Facebook, we can create a lot richer pages and activity in really. It’s gonna be a lot better for the user and a lot better for you to, you know get more lease and sales,.
